Mo Troper、'Let's Get Back To Music'を公開

オレゴン州ポートランド出身のアーティスト兼バンド Mo Troperが、6/10にDay to Day Recordsからリリースしたニューシングル 'Let's Get Back To Music'を公開！

7/10発売のニューアルバム『Today I Played My Guitar And Sang』収録曲。

プロデュースは Jon Titterington (Father John Misty)が務め、演奏に Dan Bailey (Father John Misty), Daniel Rhine, Blue Broderick (Diners), Emma Parry, Nick Dzaich-Poundersらが参加。ミックスは Dave Cerminara、マスタリングは Jack Shirleyが担当。

すてきなポップス愛好家。バロックポップ、サンシャインポップ、パワーポップ辺りで良い曲を書く人で、今回はパワーポップ方面。ちなみに、Teen Suicideの Kittyから「ヨットロックを書いてみて」と言われたことがきっかけで生まれた曲とのこと。

タイトルとメロディのキャッチーさでニコニコしながら聴いてたら、以下にあるようなエピソードだったり、よくよくアルバムのアートワーク読んだらまぁまぁなことが書いてあって、背筋がピンってなりました。

“The owner of my former record label arbitrarily insisted my producer credit be removed from an album they released. When the person in this band protested, the head of the label said something like, “We really need to stop talking about this and just get back to the music.” The lyrics were partially inspired by that but it’s also a sendup of kumbaya classic rock shit and I suppose a critique of this notion that rock music is a meaningful vehicle for social change or a substitute for real political engagement.”

以前所属していたレコードレーベルのオーナーが、リリースしたアルバムから私のプロデューサークレジットを削除するよう一方的に要求してきました。このバンドのメンバーが抗議すると、レーベルの代表は「こんな話はもうやめて音楽に戻るべきだ」といったことを言いました。歌詞は部分的にその影響を受けているが、同時に、お決まりの非現実的な理想主義的なクラシックロックのパロディでもあり、ロック音楽が社会変革のための有意義な手段、あるいは真の政治参加の代替手段であるという考え方への批判でもあると言えるだろう。
