Samuumは Lusine Kocharian, Ando Berberianを中心に始まったプロジェクト。
2017年にThe Voice of Ukraineに出演後、YouTubeで640万回以上の再生回数を記録したボーカリスト。Berlin Music Video Awardsを2度受賞し、Overmonoのティザーなどを手掛ける映像作家。それぞれの名声を活かし、アメリカ系アルメニア人として中東文化の既成概念に挑戦する目的を持ち、リリースされる楽曲には強いメッセージ性が込められてます。
折衷的で個性的なサウンドを展開する前に、街にいる若者たちが実はドローンに監視されているという画を最初に見せるところが何とも。
“Nothing’s permanent in this region. Regimes rise and fall faster than your last playlist shuffle, countries collapse, new ones appear—so we’ve built up a certain immunity. And somehow, it’s the small, vital rituals that keep us sane. Reading coffee grounds is one of those rituals: half-mystic, half-playful, but quietly comforting. There’s a meditative magic to it—a very Middle Eastern form of therapy. Probably works no worse, and definitely does less harm, than antidepressants.
