“Sometimes I’ll conceive of song titles by mashing words together until I feel like there’s something evocative in it,” “This was written at the time when AI was really breaking into the mainstream. It was something I had been doing some research on for some time, listening to people broadcasting warnings about its dangers, in some way knowing those warnings would be fruitless. Technology marches on, we simply can’t help ourselves. I was feeling very depressed and hopeless. This song came from trying to find a way to reckon with it, but still see hope through it. It’s still a condemnation of humanity’s choices and our treatment of the earth and its creatures, but there is a through line of optimism in it somewhere. There’s just no other option than to be optimistic in my mind, naive and difficult as it may be. Maybe there’s something beautiful about humankind relinquishing control of our machinations and reverting to some purer version of biological existence.”
