“It’s a ram of a song – a restless, compulsive guy with good intentions – a working animal – a hustling juvenile, moving faster than light. He’s from the 80s but hasn’t aged a bit, and now he’s heading for the big city, crossing that bridge from New Jersey to New York... When I wrote it, I had just found a Bruce Springsteen autobiography lying in the street. When the phrase ‘Telecaster warrior’ popped out, I knew I had (again) imagined myself as him, on the rise... I love these games of imagination. I’m Bulgarian—I come from a totally different world, but I’m into blends and hybrids. What if a Bulgarian went to America and sold Americans Coca-Cola? Wouldn’t that be a pretty cool new combo?”
