Telephone Romeo、'Slippin''を公開

フィンランド/ヘルシンキ拠点のプロデューサー・アーティスト Aleksi Skippariによるソロプロジェクト Telephone Romeoが、6/5にSolitiからリリースしたデビューアルバム『Telephone Romeo』より、'Slippin''を公開！

すでに何度も取り上げてきたので主要な曲はだいたいチェック済みだった中、5曲目に長く暑い夏にぴったりのサウンドトラックがありました。

アルバム全体としてはサイケがかった極私的ポップス、しかもダウナー系じゃない。2020年のデビューEPから複数枚のシングルを重ねてきて初のフルレングス、でも良い意味で気負いがなくサラッと聴ける全10曲。ベタに Tame Impala, MGMTが好きな人なら間違いないはずです。

“Sometimes you just have to let the song come out without resisting or trying to mold it into something else. This was one of those that just rushed out of me. It wears its message on its sleeve and that can be really daunting. But it was exciting because I felt I was trying something new and in earnest and I’m proud of how it turned out.It marks the mid point on the album where we go from these lush and a bit grand soundscapes to a more simple band instrumentation. It’s not quite like the first half of the album with its tenderness but it also leaves the door open for other ideas to build in the second half. So I think it’s cool how it feels so singular on an album with two different sides.”

時には、抗ったり別のものに形作ろうとしたりせずに、ただ曲が自然に湧き上がってくるのを待つしかないんです。この曲は、まさに自分の中から一気に溢れ出てきた曲の一つでした。メッセージを包み隠さず表現しているので、とても勇気がいることでもあります。しかし、真摯に新しいことに挑戦している実感があってワクワクしましたし、その仕上がりを誇りに思っています。アルバムの中間地点に位置するこの曲は、みずみずしく少し壮大な音世界から、よりシンプルなバンド編成へと移行するポイントになっています。優しさに満ちたアルバム前半とは少し異なりますが、後半に向けて他のアイデアが展開する余地を残しています。だから、二つの異なる側面を持つアルバムの中で、このように際立った存在感を示しているのはとても面白いことだと思います。
