オレゴン州ポートランド拠点のドリームポップデュオ Shady Coveが、8/30にリリースするニューアルバム『Part II』より、先行シングル 'Passenger'を公開！
Shady Coveは Sarah Rose, Sarah Nienaberの2人組。2020年結成、2022年にデビューアルバムをPark the Vanから発表。
ドラムに Devon Shirley (Summer Cannibals)が参加し、ミックスは Larry Crane、マスタリングは Adam Gonsalvesが担当。
パンデミックによる影響でポートランドからオレゴン州の田舎へ移住した前作から、不本意ながら("begrudgingly")ポートランドに戻った後に制作したのが今作。
内省的で夢のような質感が素晴らしくて、「ここではないどこか」力が強い。その美しさと前述の件を踏まえて聴くと、アウトロのテープストップが持つ意味に奥行きが生まれてる気がして魅力的です。
““Passenger” is one of those special songs that came into the world seemingly all on its own, drifting down into our heads while we were dog-sitting in the suburbs, waiting on a snowstorm. To start, we layered up old voice memos with sampled and re-sampled loops on a dusty 4-track. A story quickly took shape—one of a past life, growing up, stillness… and going along for the ride.”
