Onesie、'Twilight Years'を公開

ニューヨーク/ブルックリン拠点のパワーポップバンド Onesieが、4/22にSell The Heart Recordsからリリースしたニューシングル 'Twilight Years'を公開！

Onesieはソングライター Ben Haberlandを中心に結成し、Rob Lanterman (Shrugdealer, Hidden Home Records), Jason Bauers (Lie About, Better Plastic, Sharkswimmer, Behold...The Arctopus), Ernie D'Amaso (Automat0m, Ernest Ernie & The Sincerities)を加えた4人組。

'Twilight Years'は、6/18発売のニューアルバム『Way Thousand Bump To The Sky』収録曲。

4枚目となる今作のレコーディングは、Guided By Voicesの専属エンジニアであり、Built To Spillのプロデューサーでもある Travis Harrisonと行ない、マスタリングは Jack Callahanが担当。

パンクロックとパワーポップの間のグラデーションを行き来するサウンドで、たまにEMOが挟まったりするバンド。Piebaldとか思い出したりもする。

OPIVのステッカーを貼ったIbanezのギターを弾くパンクスが、人生の諸々を経た30年後でもこうしてバンドをやってるのがいいなって、以下で語られる内容も含めて。

“My father passed after a slow, horrible cancer in March 2023. The end months were rough. My mother was able to be his primary caretaker, but it took a huge toll on her. My grief really had nowhere to go, so it wound up here. Having had my own kid in recent years, I found myself often reliving my own experience as a child whilst parenting. He didn’t have a big service nor is there a grave to visit, so writing the lyrics for this song kind of served that function. I made sure to pepper it with more playful elements to not make it a boring funeral dirge. This is probably the only song lamenting a paternal death that mentions Salacious Crumb and Family Feud. Can you find the Beatles nod too?”

父は2023年3月に、ゆっくりとした、恐ろしい癌で亡くなりました。最期の数ヶ月は辛いものでした。母は父の主な介護者でしたが、それは母に大きな負担をかけました。私の悲しみは行き場を失い、結局はここに。近年、私自身も子供を授かり、子育てをする中で、しばしば自分の子供時代の経験を追体験するようになりました。息子には盛大な葬儀もなければ、お墓参りもできないので、この曲の歌詞を書くことが、ある意味でその役割を果たしたと言えるでしょう。退屈な葬送曲にならないよう、遊び心のある要素を散りばめるように心がけました。おそらく、父親の死を悼む曲で、Salacious Crumbや Family Feudに言及しているのは、この曲だけでしょう。ビートルズへのオマージュも見つけられますか？
