VAAGUE、'Modern Jazz?'を公開

ベルギー/ブリュッセル拠点のエレクトロニックプロデューサー・ドラマー VAAGUEが、11/28にShapes No FrameからリリースしたEP『SHORTCUT』より、'Modern Jazz?'を公開！

ドラムを叩きながら色んな音をリアルタイムで出すスタイルで注目を集めるアクト。

以前紹介した先行シングルが良かったので楽しみにしてて、激しさとキャッチーさを併せ持つ好内容でした。

“I wanted to imagine a doomed pianist trapped in a nightmare forced to be played by his own piano. I used home-made samples of prepared piano and put it inside an MPC. I wanted that layer to be rhythmical and to compete with the drum pattern hence treating it as a drum machine. That process is largely inspired by an Aphex Twin record that had a huge impact on me: « Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt2 EP ». After playing the drum and bass groove underneath I thought it could use another melodic layer and I decided to use the same process but this time with a percussion sound. Isn’t it funny that the melody is played by percussions and that the rhythmical part is played by a prepared piano?”

私は悪夢に閉じ込められ、自分のピアノで演奏せざるを得ない運命にあるピアニストをイメージしました。自宅で作ったプリペアドピアノのサンプルを使い、それをMPCに入れました。そのレイヤーはリズミカルで、ドラムパターンと張り合うようなものにしたかったので、ドラムマシンとして扱いました。このプロセスは、私に大きな影響を与えた Aphex Twin のEP『Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt2』に強くインスパイアされています。ドラムとベースのグルーヴを下に敷いたあと、もう一つメロディックなレイヤーが必要だと思い、同じプロセスを使うことにしましたが、今回はパーカッションの音を使いました。メロディをパーカッションが演奏し、リズム部分をプリペアドピアノが演奏しているのは面白いですよね。
