The Pretty Flowers、'Hit Nothing'を公開

カリフォルニア州ロサンゼルス出身のインディーロックバンド The Pretty Flowersが、6/30にDouble Helix Recordsからリリースしたニューシングル 'Hit Nothing'を公開！

The Pretty Flowersは Noah Green, Sam Tiger, Jake Gideon, Sean Johnsonの4人組。2018年にデビューアルバム『Why Trains Crash』を発表し、これまでに Mo Troper, Samiam, The Roxiesと共演してます。

'Hit Nothing'は7/14発売のニューアルバム『A Company Sleeve』収録曲。エンジニアは Adam Lasus (Lily’s, Yo La Tengo)、マスタリングは Matthew Barnhart (Superchunk, Bob Mould, METZ)が担当。

Teenage Fanclub, Superchunk, Guided By Voices, Pavementあたりが好きな人におすすめのバンド。カレッジロック・スラッカーロック・パワーポップのラインですね。

“'Hit Nothing' was written a couple years ago over the winter holidays after plowing through Julian Cope’s two incredible autobiographies, Head-On and Repossessed. There is no music scene I would wish to be a part of more than Liverpool circa 1979-81. I was very much inspired by Cope’s music, writing and heroic psychedelic explorations. The lyrics of “Hit Nothing” were written on walks around my LA neighborhood during Covid lockdown, mostly daydreaming about what it would be like for our band to exist in a completely different era, imagining a record company’s pressure on a band like ours to write a hit new wave song in the early-80s. “Hit Nothing” is both the idea of that song and the song itself.”

'Hit Nothing'は、数年前の冬休みにジュリアン・コープの2冊の素晴らしい自伝『Head-On』と『Repossessed』を読みあさった後に書きました。1979年から81年頃のリバプールほど、私が参加したいと思う音楽シーンはないでしょう。私はコープの音楽、文章、そして英雄的なサイケデリックの探求にとてもインスパイアされました。歌詞は、Covidの封鎖中にLAの近所を散歩したときに書いたもので、僕らのバンドがまったく違う時代に存在していたらどんな感じだっただろうという白昼夢を思い描きながら、80年代初頭にニュー・ウェーブのヒット曲を書かなければならないという僕らのようなバンドに対するレコード会社のプレッシャーを想像しながら書きました。'Hit Nothing'は、その曲のアイデアであり、曲そのものでもあります。
