スコットランド/グラスゴー拠点のオルタナティヴフォークバンド Hank Treeが、11月にOlive Grove Recordsからリリースしたデビューアルバム『The Big North』より、'Sweet Saltpeter'のMVを公開！
制作は Felipe Bustos Sierra。
Hank Treeは Fergus MacDonald (ex-State Broadcasters),Roy Shearer (Ultras, Inspector Tapehead), Bart Owl (Eagleowl, Broken Chanter)の3人組。これまでに King Creosote, Alasdair Roberts, Gwenifer Raymondのサポートを務めてます。
アルバムのプロデュースは Andy Bush (The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks, De Rosa)。
チリ北部のアタカマ砂漠にある町の栄枯盛衰がテーマの作品。
1970~80年代の軍事独裁政権下で国外退去を強制されたチリ人駐在員の父を持ち、ドキュメンタリー映画『Nae Pasaran』でBritish Academy Scotland Awardsの最優秀監督賞を受賞した監督 Felipe Bustos Sierraとのコラボレーション。MVでは映画の撮影中に記録されたチリ北部の風景を使用してます。
クラシックギター主導のアンサンブルの中から突然ディストーションが飛び出すコントラストがユニーク。
“What started with a couple of visits to the ghost towns in the Atacama desert turned into a bit of an obsession for me and it took years to research the album's historical context. The idea that thousands of people had to set up a home and work in such a harsh environment was eye opening. In Sweet Saltpeter I wanted to explore the alienation of feeling like a cog in an uncaring machine, which must have been exacerbated further by the harsh work and climatic conditions the workers had to face.”
