ざっくり説明するときは DEVO, Talking Headsにインスパイアされたバンドってだけ言う。でも、このバンドの強みは、文化や政治といった問題を力強いグルーヴとキャッチーなコーラスの中に織り込む技術だと思ってて、自己認識と内省にフォーカスするときも、むやみに暗くなりすぎないところが素晴らしいです。
“This song was designed to sit on the edge of sensory overload I was inspired by songs like 'Choctaw Bingo' by James McMurtry and 'Pump It Up' by Elvis Costello and that kind of relentless flow of vocals and repetitive instrumental.” “The lyrics are mostly a stream of consciousness but I was inspired by a sense of corrosive transactionalism and grift culture that feels like it's seeping into every fibre of our culture; everyone's got a subscription or supplement or a crypto coin to sell you at all times, and like the song it's relentless. When it came to writing the chorus I'd become quite stuck but I was at the time obsessively listening to 'Nothing Matters' by The Last Dinner Party I loved the simplicity of that chorus, so I put down the kick and snare pattern from that track on a loop and this really got the ideas flowing. The finished product couldn't sound less like 'Nothing Matters' but taking that approach really opened up the chorus to something much more grandiose than perhaps it would have been.” - Nick Tompkins
